This bow was made by Dominique "Justin" Poirson around 1900. Born in Mirecourt in 1851, Poirson began his studies under Nicolas Maire at the age of 14 before going on to work with J.B. Vuillaume. Following Vuillaume's death, Poirson then joined the Gand & Bernardel firm and later went on to establish his own workshop in Paris in 1879. This bow is sold with a certificate by Pierre Guillaume.

This violin bow is stamped "Poirson a Paris" and weighs 61.1 grams. It has a round stick of pernambuco, measuring 749mm in length, with a French lapping of silver tinsel and brown silk, and a leather grip. The frog is of ebony, silver mounted with a Parisian eye, and a silver button. It is in good condition.

This bow has a flexible stick, with a very smooth action that allows for very easy bow changes and legato. Off-the-string strokes are quite soft, but a harder attack can be found as usual with flatter hair. This bow is most suitable for performance at a tertiary level or higher.
