Bow Repairs & Restorations

For stringed players, bows are seen as an extension of the arm and are a crucial part of their kit. Therefore, just like the instrument itself, it is incredibly important to keep the bow in good condition and give it the maintenance it needs after wear and tear over time.

The most recurrent work completed on a bow is a rehair however, common repairs include putting on a new thumb grip, replacing lapping, relining tips and replacing brass eyes. A full list of the most common services are listed below.

About Our Bow Rehairs

We procure the highest quality horse hair from Mongolia, which provides excellent durability and consistent, reliable tension. To ensure optimal performance, for every rehair, we carefully select both the quantity and quality of hair, a tailored approach that takes into consideration the strength and flexibility of each bow.

Our rehairs are completed by our head luthier David Glanville who has over 30 years of experience rehairing and repairing bows, so you can rest assured that your bow will be in good hands. Typically, we have a turnaround time of 3-6 days for violin, viola, cello and double bass bow rehairs depending on which day your bow is dropped off.

If you'd like to have your bow rehaired, please call us on 02 9417 2611 to book an appointment.
