This violin is from the workshop of Collin-Mezin, one of the most prolific violin-making workshops in France at the turn of the 20th century.
It is labelled "Ch. J.B. Collin-Mezin / Luthier / Grand Prix - Exposition Universelle 1900 / Paris". The body measures 328mm along the back, 157mm across the upper bouts and 196 across the lower bouts. It has a one-piece back of moderately flamed maple with a medium curl, with matching ribs and scroll. The top is of a finely grained spruce, and the violin is finished with a light amber-brown varnish and ebony fittings. It is in good condition.
This violin has a bright, open sound, and an easy playability, making it well suitable for playing in early high-school or for exams for younger students.
