This instrument was made by Charlelie Dauriat in 2019 in Cognac, France. Dauriat is a French maker with a workshop at the Chateau de Gourville, who studied at L'Ecole Nationale De Lutherie De Québec. Having initially learned guitar when he was younger, he quickly applied his passion for music with his skill in woodwork to amateur making. He then went on to study with Didier Grelot, and subsequently Rémi Rouleau in Quebec, in order to specialise in violin-making and further his craft. Much of his work explores older models, being fluent using various Stradivarius and Del Gesu models, but also engaging with other makers such as Pietro Guarneri, and Nicolo Amati. This instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity and photos from the maker.

This instrument is labelled "Dauriat Charlelie / IHS 1635 / Cognac 2019" and is based on an Amati model. The body measures 344mm along the back, 157mm across the upper bouts and 197mm across the lower bouts. The back is two pieces of maple with medium flaming and wide curl. The maple of the ribs and scroll matches the back. The top is made of a finely grained spruce. The violin has gold brown varnish with boxwood fittings.

As this violin is an Amati model, it has a smaller than average body length, but the string length is still the same for a 4/4 violin. This creates a feeling of ease and facility when playing, while still being comfortable and familiar under the fingers.

This instrument has a bright sound with excellent projection, the smaller body not constraining the sound at all, and is most suited for solo playing at a tertiary level or higher.
