In total he won 15 gold medals at competitions in Rome & Liege and in 1949 he won the ‘International Violin Making Competition,’ in Cremona with three instruments: a violin, viola & a cello. This instrument comes with original invoices & documentation from the time of initial purchase.

This viola is labelled ‘Giuseppe Lucci, da Bagnacavallo. Fece in Roma 1979,’ it is also stamped & signed by Giuseppe Lucci. This viola is based on a Stradivari model. The body measures 415mm along the back, 195mm across the upper bouts and 245mm across the lower bouts. The back is made from two pieces of well flamed maple & the ribs & scroll have been selected to match the back. The top is made of spruce with a straight grain. This viola has a good cover of orange varnish & ebony fittings. This viola is in excellent condition with no damage or marks.

Overall, this viola has a beautifully rich & warm tone with excellent clarity. It has outstanding resonance, particularly in the lower register. The powerful projection & response time would make this instrument particularly suitable for the soloist. However, the richness in this violas sound would still lend itself towards the professional chamber musician.
