This violin was made by Harry Vatiliotis in Sydney, in 1987. Vatiliotis was born in Cyprus in 1936, and after immigrating to Australia in the 1950's began working with NSW Railways, before beginning an apprenticeship with A. E. Smith at 17. An immensely prolific maker, he has made almost a thousand instruments, and is well respected globally for his instruments. Within Australia, he is also well known for public projects such as the "Powerhouse Twins", an experiment with the Powerhouse Museum to determine how much violins develop over time due to being played in and their environment.

It is labelled "C A Vatiliotis / Maker / Sydney 1987 326". The body measures 350mm along the back, 169mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of well flamed maple with a medium curl, and matching ribs and scroll. The top is a finely grained spruce, and the violin is finished with ebony fittings and a light amber varnish. It is in good condition.

This violin has a luminous and open sound, bright and clear and with lots of resonance. Both the upper and lower registers have a sophisticated character, and the violin is very easy to lead to different colours and effects. This violin would be a perfect fit for someone performing at a tertiary level or higher, and would be at home in chamber, orchestral, or solo performance.
