In 2021 The Sydney String Centre will be celebrating its 30th Year and to mark the occasion we have teamed up with Klaus Clement to produce a range limited run of anniversary violas. We have been friends with Klaus Clement from the very early days of our business and to help us celebrate he has produced a limited run of anniversary edition VA7 violas distinctly marked with the Sydney String Centre logo in a wax seal on the back of the scroll.

This viola was made by master luthier Klaus Clement. Clement began learning the art of violin-making in the workshop of Karl Hoefner/Paesold in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2010 Clement opened his own workshop in Leipzig, Germany. He is an active member in many organisations including the association of German Violin and Bow Makers. This instrument comes with a certificate, declaration of materials and photos from the maker.

The VA7 has a two-piece well-flamed maple back while the top is made from spruce. This viola has been antiqued with a good cover of golden to red-brown varnish. Klaus Clement is well-known in particular for his varnishing. The formula he uses is constantly changing and improving as he investigates the effect of the varnish on the sound of his instruments.

Overall this viola has a bright and clear sound with outstanding projection and good clarity. It has a well-balanced tone and a fast response time. It is ideal for tertiary level study, the advancing to professional level soloist or chamber musician. This instrument is currently fitted with Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Gold on the A, D and G and Spirocore on the C. These strings add a level of complexity to the viola’s overall brightness.
