J. B. Collin-Mezin Violin Mirecourt 1922

This violin is from the workshop of Collin-Mezin, one of the most prolific violin-making workshops in France at the turn of the 20th century. It is sold with a certificate of authenticity by Rampal.

This violin is labelled 'Ch. J.-B. COLLIN-MEZIN Fils, Maitre-Luthier 1922' and is based on a Stradivari model. The body measures 358mm along the back, 166mm across the upper bouts and 205mm across the lower bouts. The back is of two-piece flamed maple, the front a fine-grained spruce and it is finished with a reddish-brown varnish.

This violin has a powerful sound with plenty of projection and sweetness in the upper register. It is most suited to solo and chamber performances.
