This violin was made in the Laberte workshop and is authentic in all of its principal parts. The Laberte workshop produced a prolific number of stringed instruments at the turn of the 20th Century, taking on trademarks and stamps of other established luthiers.

This violin from 1911 is labelled "Instruments d'Artistes Jacques Leclerc". The body measures 358mm along the back, 164mm across the upper bouts and 205mm across the lower bouts. The back is of two piece, highly flamed and curled maple with matching ribs and scroll. The centre of the top is fine-grained flamed spruce, leading to a wider grain on the outer edges of the instrument. It is in excellent condition and has been finished with golden-brown varnish and rosewood fittings.

This violin has a warm sound and would be best suited for chamber music or orchestral playing. The violin projects well, with a consistent warmth through its lower and upper register. It is currently fitted with Larsen il Cannone strings.
