Originally from Mexico, Arturo Ponce attended the Taller De Laudeia at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa in 1997 where he learned violin making under the guidance of Antonio Amezcua and bow making under Octavio Aranda. In 2003, he attended a bow making course in Cremona and, in 2004, he started an apprenticeship with master bow maker Giovanni Lucchi, developing his skills as a bow maker and restorer. He started teaching a bow making course at Centro Formazione Professionale in 2009. Arturo opened his own workshop in 2011.

This cello bow is stamped "Arturo Ponce a Cremona" and weighs 78.6 grams. It has a round stick of pernambuco, measuring 719mm, with a silver French silk lapping and a leather grip. The frog is of ebony, with a mother of pearl eye and a three part button with silver and ebony. It is in excellent condition.

The bow has quite a strong, bold stick, capable of setting the string into motion immediately and with lots of intensity. It is balanced across all registers, finding just as complex and detailed of a sound higher up in thumb positions as it does at the bottom of the C string.  The rigidity of the stick makes spiccato quite easy and responsive. This bow is perfect of players at a tertiary or professional level.
