The Knoll workshop where this bow was crafted, was established in 1932 with Alfred Knoll (1909-1980). Alfred’s son Harmut was born in 1937 and he successfully completed his master’s craftsman exam in 1965. In 1968 Harmut had a son Gerald & in 1977 Harmut took over the Knoll workshop. Gerald took his master’s craftsman exam in 1998 & in 2003 he took over the workshop. The Knoll workshop produce a large range of bows from an advanced student standard to that of a professional soloist. 

This violin bow is stamped ‘ALFRED KNOLL***’ & weighs 61.4 grams. The stick has been rounded & is made from top quality pernambucco. It measures 745mm in length & has silver lapping & a black leather grip. This bow is silver mounted & has a mammoth frog. It has a silver button and the tip has been reinforced with ebony. This bow was made by a master craftsman in the Knoll workshop. 

This violin bow has a strong stick and gives a full & resonant sound. It has a superb level of control & is extremely well-balanced. It boasts a quick response time that facilitates more complex strokes such as spicatto, ricochet & sautille. This bow would be suitable for tertiary level study and the advanced to professional level musician.
