Schubert's Quartet in A minor "is very soft overall, but in such a way that a melody remains as in songs, entirely sentimental and entirely expressed. It received much applause, especially the minuet, which is extraordinarily delicate and natural. Thus the painter Moritz von Schwind wrote to his friend Schober on the occasion of the premiere of the A minor quartet in 1824. The quartet movement in C minor (as well as the fragment of the 2nd movement from this unfinished string quartet) complete this edition of the parts in the Urtext of the New Schubert edition.
