Robert Blaszauer was born in Hungary in 1961. He began training in wood sculpting with his grandfather when he was seven, and after forming an interest in classical music, soon applied his skill to instrument making. He studied under Pál Sáránszky, a highly respected Hungarian luthier, and after graduating with a masters degree he pursued making in Austria. In 1992, he established his own independent workshop in Budapest.  Under the watchful eye of his grandfather, a wood sculptor, he began his apprenticeship at the age of seven. It was in his grandfather's atelier that Robert learned to form the gentle curves of the wood, shaping the fine art of the music each piece would produce.

Labelled 'Blaszauer Robert hegedűkészítő mester op. 36', the back of this viola is of two-piece, medium flamed maple with matching ribs and scroll. The top is made from medium-grained spruce and the instrument has been finished with golden brown varnish on a yellow ground. The body measures 415mm along the back, 209mm along the upper bout and 261mm along the lower bout.

This viola is in excellent condition and produces a powerful, clear tone, balanced across all registers.
