Hagen Weise Master Series Viola 16.25"

This viola was made by master luthier Hagen Weise in 2015. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop located in Baiersdorf, Germany. This instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity from Hagen Weise.

This viola is labelled ‘Hagen Weise, Mòhrendorf 2015,’ & signed ‘Hagen Weise.’ It has been modelled on the Andrea Guarneri ‘Cont Vitale’ viola. The body measures 410mm along the back, 195mm across the upper bouts and 245mm across the lower bouts. The back is made from one piece of moderately flamed maple & the ribs & scroll have been selected to match the back. The top is made of spruce with a straight grain. The violin has been antiqued with a good cover of golden to dark brown varnish with rosewood fittings. It is in excellent condition with no damage or marks.

Overall this viola has a very well-rounded, sweet & balanced tone across all four strings. The tone clarity is extremely clear & focused with outstanding projection. This instrument will most suit the advancing soloist & the advanced to professional chamber musician. ‘Evah Pirazzi Gold’ has been used for the C, G & D string and ‘Larsen Virtuoso’ has been used for the A string. The use of ‘Evah Golds’ on the bottom strings matches the overall warmness of the viola but broadens the projection, while the ‘Virtuoso’ A string adds a touch of brightness & brilliance to the overall sound.
