Violin - Hagen Weise #121 Matte 4/4 Strad
Hagen Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop in Baiersdorf, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. This violin comes with photos and a certificate of authenticity from the maker.
This violin is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf" along with the year and a workshop number, and is based on a Stradivarius model. The body measures 356mm along the back, 167mm across the upper bouts and 209mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of moderately flamed maple with a tight curl, and has matching ribs and scroll. The top is a strongly grained spruce, and the violin is finished with ebony fittings and an amber-brown varnish.
Overall, it has a sweet character with lots of texture and richness to the sound, especially in the lower registers. It is defined a little more by its complexity, and has a wide variety of different colours and timbres to reach for while playing. It would be well-suited to players in high school or above who are continuing with exams, recitals, or orchestral playing.
