Hagen Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop in Baiersdorf, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. This violin comes with photos and a certificate of authenticity from the maker.

This violin is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf" along with a year and workshop number, and is based on a Guarneri model. The body measures 351mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of highly flamed maple with a tight curl, and matching ribs and scroll. The top is of a very finely grained spruce, and the violin is finished with rosewood fittings and a golden varnish.

It has quite a bright and rounded tone, with good response and an easy playability. It sings best in the upper register, where it carries a light and very sweet tone, and contrasts that with a darker and more internal lower register. This violin would be well-suited to players in late high school or doing tertiary study, and would be comfortable for solo repertoire, chamber music, and in orchestral settings.
