Hagen Weise #360 Goffriller Model Cello Baiersdorf Germany 2024

This cello was made by Hagen Weise in 2024 in Baiersdorf, Germany. Brief history & points of interest on maker. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop in Baiersdorf, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers.

This cello is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf Sept. 2024 "Gofriller"". The body measures 757mm along the back, 340mm across the upper bouts and 450mm across the lower bouts. The back is in one piece, and is made of moderately flamed maple with a narrow curl; the ribs and scroll have been made to match. The top is of spruce with a wide grain in the centre and becomes more narrow towards the upper and lower bouts. It has been finished with a medium brown varnish on a golden ground, and possesses ebony fittings and a Belgian bridge. It is fitted with a titanium tailpiece.

This cello has a bright tone which projects well across all registers. It has a very direct sound and plays very easily, responding immediately to changes in dynamics and bowing. It would be most suited to a solo or chamber musician at a tertiary level or higher.
