This cello was made in the workshop of Scrollavezza and Zanre in Parma, in year 2025. Elisa Scrollavezza and Andrea Zanrè opened their own workshop in Parma during 2002, and they specialise not only in making high-quality instruments but also restoration, historical research and acoustics. Elisa and Andrea both teach at the Renato Scrollavezza School of Violin Making in Parma. Elisa’s father, Renato Scrollavezza was one of the most highly respected modern Italian luthiers and was the curator of Paganini’s violin the Guarneri del Gesu nicknamed ‘Il Cannone.’ Elisa and Andrea have won numerous awards at various national competitions over the years and attended advanced making classes internationally. This instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity and photos from the makers.

It is labelled "Atelier / Scrollavezza & Zanre / Parma, ANNO 2025 / Mod. GAETANO. SGARABOTTO and is modelled from the work of Gaetano Sgarabotto, a well-respected Parmesan maker. The body measures 744mm along the back, 342mm across the upper bouts and 434mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of maple, highly flamed with a broad curl, and matching ribs and scroll. The top is of a finely grained spruce, and the cello is finished with a red-amber varnish and ebony pegs.

This cello has a rich and dark tone, especially prominent in the lower register. It is powerful, yet easy to play, requiring very little effort to garner a quick response. It is well-balanced across all registers and with its direct and focused sound, it would be well suited to a chamber or orchestral musician.
