This bow was made by Hipployte Camille Lamy in Paris, in 1935. Born in 1875, H. C. Lamy was the first son of Alfred Lamy, one of the most well-known and sought after bow makers of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. A. Lamy was most influenced by figures like Voirin and Vuillaume, and carried the Parisian tradition through from them into the 20th Century, where his legacy was continued by H. C. Lamy and his contemporary Eugene Sartory. H. C.'s model was very similar to his father's, but like many other makers of his time, as the performance practice grew stronger and more robust in the early 20th Century, so too did their bows. This most often is evident at the tip of the bow with a slight widening of the head, and slightly larger proportions overall. When his father died in 1919, H. C. Lamy took over his workshop in Paris, where he worked until his death in 1942.

This bow is stamped "A. Lamy á Paris" and weighs 62.3 grams. It has a round stick of pernambuco measuring 74.5cm in length, with a silver lapping and leather grip. The frog is of ebony mounted in silver, with a mother of pearl eye, and a three-part button of silver and ebony. It is in good condition.

It has a strong stick, vibrant and filled with energy, ready with an immediate feeling of response for a variety of techniques. In legato it is remarkably smooth, especially at the tip and the heel when changing bow, and the length of the bow is filled with texture and character which invites the player to develop their sound at every point. It is quite comfortable off the string as well, both in the upper half for thrown strokes and lower in the bow as well. This bow would best suit a player at a professional level, in all forms of playing.
