This violin was made by Scrollavezza and Zanre in 2025, in Parma, Italy. Elisa Scrollavezza and Andrea Zanrè opened their own workshop in Parma in 2002. They specialize not only in making high-quality instruments but also restoration, historical research and acoustics. Elisa and Andrea both currently teach at the Renato Scrollavezza School of Violin Making in Parma, and Elisa’s father, Renato Scrollavezza, was one of the most highly respected modern Italian luthiers of his time and the curator of Paganini’s violin, the Guarneri del Gesu nicknamed ‘Il Cannone.’ Elisa and Andrea have won numerous awards at various national competitions over the years and attended advanced making classes internationally.

The violin is bears two labels, the first being "Imitazione Guadagnini / Scrollavezza & Zanre / Parma, Anno 2025", and is signed by Elisa Scrollavezza and Andrea Zanre; the second label is a replica bearing "Joannes Baptitta Guadagnini / Cremonenfis fecit Taurini" and is made after a Guadagnini model. The body measures 353mm along the back, 166mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a one-piece back of well-flamed maple with a moderate to broad curl, and the ribs and scroll have been made to match. The top is of a widely grained spruce and the violin is finished with a golden-brown varnish and has been lightly antiqued, boxwood pegs, tailpiece, and chinrest.

This violin produces what can only be described as an 'old sound'. It has the maturity and depth of an instrument which has been played by accomplished violinists for hundreds of years. The lower register is broad and dark, whilst the upper register transforms the darkness into purity. The violin is a joy for players to perform on, requiring very little effort to produce a full and well projecting tone. It would be suited to players undertaking tertiary study or at a professional level, performing in both chamber or orchestral settings.
