Mazzotti learned the craft of violin making while attending the Istituto Liutario ‘A Stradivari’ in Cremona and undertook private lessons with various master luthiers in Italy. In 2000, he received his degree as ‘Maestro Liutaio’ with full marks. After working with Master Massimo Negroni to improve his knowledge of the classic Cremonese style of violin-making, he opened his own workshop in Piacenza. This violin comes with a beautiful certificate of authenticity in the form of a book with high-quality photos, along with a description of the instrument & its parts from the maker.

This violin is labelled 'Matteo Mazzotti cremonensis fece in PIACENZA Anno 2023', and is based on the famous Il Cannone model violin by Guarneri. The measurements are 353mm along the back, 170mm across the upper bouts and 205mm across the lower bouts. The back is of two piece, highly flamed and curled maple, with matching ribs and scroll. The top is made from finely-grained spruce in the centre, leading to wider grain on the outer edges of the instrument. It is in excellent condition and finished with golden-brown varnish on yellow ground and boxwood fittings.

This violin has a magnificent, powerful sound and is most suited to solo performances.
