Max Glanville grew up in a home filled with music, surrounded by his father’s instrument repair workshop and his mother’s work as a music teacher. Alongside his interest in music and instrument making, he developed a passion for design, graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Industrial Design with First Class Honours in 2015. The following year, he was named Young Australian Designer of the Year for an early bushfire detection system he developed. Combining these interests, Max helped establish Glanville & Co., where he brings traditional violin-making techniques together with contemporary design and technology. He has further developed his skills under master makers Hagen Weise and Aleks Pilz, alongside teaching industrial design at UNSW.As Production Manager at Glanville & Co., Max applies industrial design principles, advanced manufacturing technology and Toyota-inspired lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods to violin making. His approach aims to produce high-quality, locally made instruments that are accessible to a broad range of players.

This violin is labelled "Max Glanville / MADE IN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA NO. 260467" and bears his signature and the Glanville & Co. stamp. It measures 358mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts, and 208mm across the lower bouts. The back is in one-piece of well-flamed maple with a narrow curl and the ribs and scroll have been made to match. The top is of an evenly grained spruce and finished with an amber-brown varnish on a golden ground, and ebony fittings.
