Hagen Weise #145 Bergonzi Model Violin Baiersdorf Germany 2018
This violin was made by Hagen Weise in Baiersdorf in 2018. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop in Baiersdorf, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers.
This violin is labelled "Hagen Weise / Hòhrendorf 2018" and is based on a Bergonzi model. The body measures 352mm along the back, 165mm across the upper bouts and 203mm across the lower bouts. The back is of made with two pieces of highly flamed maple with a moderate curl; the ribs and scroll have been made to match. The top is finely grained spruce, and has been finished with a golden brown varnish which has been antiqued, and ebony fittings. It is in good condition.
This violin has a bright character which sparkles in the upper register. It projects depth and darkness in the lower register and has a good responsiveness. It would be most suited to a solo or chamber musician at a tertiary level or higher.
