2/h - Giovanni Varazzani Violin 2022 Cremona Italy
This violin was made by Giovanni Varazzani in 2022 in Cremona. Giovanni is the brother of master luthier Andrea Varazzani, and had an independent career in the UK before coming back to Cremona to work as a full-time apprentice in Andrea's workshop. His instruments are made under the careful supervision and examination of his brother, and stay true to the traditional Cremonese style, with careful attention paid to the varnishing.
The violin is labelled 'GIOVANNI VARAZZANI / Fece sotto la guida del / Maestro Andrea Varazzani / Sesto Cremonese - Cremona / Anno 2022'. The body measures 354mm along the back, 168mm across the upper bouts and 207mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of moderately flamed maple with a narrow curl, and the ribs and scroll have been well selected to match. The top is a moderately grained spruce and it has been finished with a gold-brown varnish.
It has an open, easy sound, full of light and colour, and possesses the perfect balance of power and flexibility for a variety of different performance situations. With a smooth response, it also does just as well at virtuosic repertoire as it does with more serious genres, giving tertiary students and professional players an instrument that is more than capable for all their performance needs.
