Hagen Weise #345 Goffriller Model Cello Baiersdorf Germany 2026

This cello was made by Hagen Weise in Baiersdorf, in 2026. Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. The instrument also comes with a certificate of authenticity from Weise.

The cello is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf 2026" and is based on a Goffriller model. The body measures 754mm along the back, 336mm across the upper bouts and 443mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of moderately flamed maple with a narrow curl, with matching ribs and scroll, and the top is a finely grained spruce. It is finished with an amber-brown varnish and has ebony fittings.

This cello produces a broad and mellow tone. There is an innate sweetness to the sound which is well-balanced across both the high and low registers. There is an almost vocal quality to the instrument's sound, not dissimilar to the roundness created by a tenor performing a sorrowful aria. It would be most suited to players embarking on tertiary study or entering the casual and freelance performance space.
