Johann Stauffer instruments are made in accordance with the European tradition of violin-making in a small, family workshop in the Tianjin area of China. Each instrument is finished and set-up in Australia by trained luthiers before being tested for tonal response by experienced musicians. Stauffer produces a range of instruments suitable for beginners up to advanced players. Their beginner instruments are characterised by their 'focussed' sound and strong projection without the typical 'harsh' sound associated with some Chinese instruments. Their advanced instruments have a more sophisticated sound with more tonal varieties that develop further over time.
